How to Escape the Content Treadmill (And Still Make Bank) Posted on By Unmarketable Let’s talk about the content treadmill, the one you didn’t even know you stepped onto until you were 37 Instagram posts deep and debating whether your breakfast smoothie is “aesthetic” enough to share. You know the one. Post every day. Engage in the comments. Repurpose your content. Record that reel. Edit the reel. Caption the reel. Beg strangers on the internet to like the reel. Repeat. It’s exhausting. And for what? Twelve likes and a DM from a guy named Mark who says, “hey bby u up?” Here’s the good news: You can hop off the content treadmill and still make money. Real money. Bank. Passive, predictable, not-tied-to-the-algorithm money. But first, we have to dismantle the lie we’ve been sold. The Great Algorithm Hustle Somewhere along the way, the internet convinced us that visibility = value. That if you’re not posting 24/7, you’re invisible. And if you’re invisible, you’re irrelevant. But here’s the truth bomb no one wants to drop because it messes with their engagement rate: Most content is noise. Even the viral stuff. It’s just louder noise. Posting every day might get you attention, but it doesn’t mean it’s getting you paid. Visibility without conversion is performance art. Unless your business model is “please clap,” you need a different strategy. The Alternative: Evergreen Assets Let’s replace that hamster wheel with a machine. One you build once. And it keeps running, without needing your face, your voice, or your constant input. What I’m talking about is evergreen digital assets. An ebook. A system. A paid workshop. A course. A toolkit. A membership. A Notion template. A spreadsheet that does the math for people who don’t like math. One solid asset can make more money than a year’s worth of Instagram reels. And guess what? You don’t have to do a TikTok dance to sell it. You don’t even have to be likeable. (But if you’re here, you probably are likeable. Just exhausted.) The Content Strategy No One Talks About Here it is. The golden strategy. The key to escaping the content grind: Create content that sells your system, not your personality. Most people create content like they’re trying to land a date. Flirty captions. Relatable vibes. Constant validation. But when your product is the proof, you don’t need to be cute. You need to be clear. So instead of thinking, “What should I post today?” try: “What can I show today that proves my system works?” Not theory. Not vibes. Proof. Show the screenshot. Show the timeline. Show the result. Show the receipt. People don’t want to be inspired anymore. They want results, and they want to believe you can get them there without burning them out in the process. Let the System Do the Selling This is where automation becomes your bestie. You do the work once. You build a landing page that makes sense. You write the emails (or don’t, more on that in a second). You link your payment processor. You plug it all in. Then you let your content be the delivery method, not the sales pitch. Pinterest pin. Blog post. Medium article. SEO page. Podcast episode. YouTube short. All of it leads back to the system. The asset. The thing that makes you money while you’re living your actual life instead of curating it online for people who may never buy a thing. But What About Building an Audience? Cool, build one. Just don’t depend on it. This is where I lose a lot of marketers because the whole “audience first, product later” model has been canonized like gospel. But the truth is, building an audience for six months before you ever sell a thing is the slowest, most volatile way to make money online. Instead, build the product first, then build around it. That way, every blog post, every tweet, every video, every pin has a job. And that job is not “get me followers.” It’s: Get me paid. You’re Not Lazy. You’re Just Done Performing. The content treadmill feeds on your self-worth. If you’re not posting, you’re “slacking.” If you’re not trending, you’re “falling behind.” But here’s the quiet truth: You don’t need to hustle harder. You need to opt out. Because when you stop trying to go viral and start building assets that make sales in your sleep, everything changes. You become untouchable. Uncancellable. Unbothered. Unmarketable (hey, that’s me!). And best of all? You make more money working less because your product is doing the talking, not your face. Pick the Machine, Not the Megaphone You can yell all you want on social. You can beg the algorithm gods for a morsel of reach. Or… You can build something once and let it run forever. I know which one I’m choosing. (And spoiler: I don’t even have an Instagram account.) * * * * * * I am UnMarketable.
